EDMONTON -- While Canada Day fireworks were popping in the night sky over Edmonton, guards were firing canisters of tear gas into a nearby prison, bringing an end to a nine-hour standoff that saw eight inmates stabbed and one shot by a guard. The violence apparently began with a clash between gangs at the Edmonton Institution.
